Job Summary

A forward-thinking specialist school in Ealing is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Science Teacher to deliver innovative and engaging lessons to students with a variety of special educational needs (SEN). Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan and deliver tailored science lessons designed to meet the individual needs of students with SEN, including autism, moderate learning difficulties, and emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Use creative and practical teaching methods to make science accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all students.
  • Collaborate with the SENCo and other specialists to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that align with each student’s specific needs and abilities.
  • Incorporate sensory activities, hands-on experiments, and visual aids to enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies and lesson plans as necessary to support individual achievement.
  • Provide a nurturing and safe classroom environment that fosters confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to deliver holistic and consistent support.
  • Maintain strong communication with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies for success.
  • Participate in staff training, development sessions, and school initiatives to continuously improve your teaching practice and contribute to the school’s inclusive ethos.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialization or passion for teaching science.
  • Experience teaching students with SEN, ideally in a specialist or alternative education setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEN teaching strategies, including behaviour management and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for inspiring students with diverse needs to achieve their best.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to engage with students, parents, and staff effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to adapt to the dynamic needs of students.
  • Enhanced DBS check and the legal right to work in the UK.
