Job Summary

A well-regarded specialist school in Kingston is seeking a passionate and talented Music Teacher to join their team. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan and deliver engaging and accessible music lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with SEN, including autism, moderate learning difficulties, and emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Use music as a therapeutic tool to develop students’ confidence, communication, and social skills.
  • Encourage self-expression and creativity by introducing students to a variety of musical styles, instruments, and activities.
  • Collaborate with the SENCo, therapists, and support staff to integrate music into students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure learning objectives are met.
  • Organize and lead musical performances, workshops, and activities that celebrate students’ talents and foster a sense of achievement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting lessons and approaches to meet individual goals.
  • Provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and engagement.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and carers, updating them on student progress and involving them in their child’s musical journey.
  • Participate in staff training, school events, and professional development sessions to enhance your skills and contribute to the school’s vibrant culture.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification, with a specialization or strong background in music education.
  • Experience teaching students with SEN, ideally in a specialist or inclusive setting.
  • Proficiency in teaching a variety of musical instruments and vocal techniques, with the ability to adapt to students’ abilities and interests.
  • Understanding of music as a therapeutic and educational tool for SEN students.
  • Patience, empathy, and creativity to inspire and motivate students with diverse needs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for inclusive education.
  • Enhanced DBS check and the legal right to work in the UK.
