Role Summary
As an HLTA, you will play a key role in delivering tailored support to students with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, PMLD, and other complex conditions. Working closely with teachers and the SENCO, you will assist in planning and delivering engaging lessons, leading interventions, and providing individualized support to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lesson Delivery: Lead lessons and interventions in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning.
- Student Support: Provide one-to-one and small group support, adapting your approach to meet individual student needs.
- Learning Activities: Prepare and deliver differentiated learning activities that are inclusive and accessible to all learners.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and document student progress, sharing insights with teachers, the SENCO, and parents to inform personalized support strategies.
- Positive Environment: Promote a safe and engaging learning environment, encouraging student independence and confidence.
- Behavior Management: Implement effective strategies to support positive behavior and maintain a productive classroom atmosphere.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, external professionals, and parents to ensure a consistent approach to each student’s education.
- Safeguarding: Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience working in a specialist SEN school or similar setting.
- HLTA qualification or equivalent, with a strong grasp of SEN teaching strategies.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage and support students with diverse needs, including Autism and PMLD.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to adapt to meet the needs of individual students.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or PMLD.
- Knowledge of behavior management and differentiated teaching methods.
- Additional certifications in SEN, First Aid, or related fields.
