Job Summary

A renowned specialist school in Kennington is seeking a creative and dedicated Art Teacher to inspire and support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN). Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated art lessons designed to meet the needs of students with SEN, including SEMH, autism, speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
  • Foster creativity, self-expression, and confidence in students through a variety of artistic mediums and projects.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCo and other specialists, ensuring that each student’s unique needs are addressed.
  • Use therapeutic and creative techniques to support students’ emotional well-being and social development.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting lesson plans and teaching methods to ensure all students can achieve their potential.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive art environment, encouraging students to explore their creativity without fear of judgment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other staff to provide a holistic and supportive educational experience.
  • Participate in school events, exhibitions, and initiatives that celebrate students’ achievements and promote the value of art in education.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the school’s ethos of inclusion, creativity, and innovation.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification, with a specialization in art or a related subject.
  • Proven experience teaching students with SEN, ideally within a specialist school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices and the therapeutic benefits of art for students with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and inspire students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and creativity to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning needs.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for making a positive impact in SEN education.
  • Enhanced DBS check and the legal right to work in the UK.
