Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

About the School:
We are a specialist school located in Havering, dedicated to providing exceptional education to students with special educational needs (SEN). Our school is a supportive, inclusive environment where we empower students to achieve their full potential. We are looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team and help provide tailored support to our diverse cohort of learners.


Role Overview:
As an HLTA at our specialist school, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality support to students with a variety of needs, including those with Autism, ADHD, PMLD, and other complex conditions. You will work closely with the teaching team to deliver engaging lessons, lead interventions, and provide one-to-one or small group support for students.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality teaching support to students with SEN, including leading lessons and interventions in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support students on a one-to-one or small group basis, tailoring your approach to meet individual learning needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of differentiated learning activities, ensuring they are accessible and inclusive.
  • Monitor student progress, track their development, and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents.
  • Promote a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment, encouraging independence and confidence in students.
  • Support the management of classroom behavior, using proactive strategies to maintain a focused and productive classroom atmosphere.
  • Work closely with the SENCO and external specialists to implement personalized learning plans for students.
  • Uphold the school's safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students at all times.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience working in a specialist SEN school or similar setting.
  • HLTA qualification or equivalent, with a strong understanding of teaching strategies for students with complex learning needs.
  • A patient, empathetic approach with the ability to manage students with a range of SEN, including Autism and PMLD.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the needs of individual students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Desirable:

  • Experience in providing support for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)ADHDPMLD, or other complex conditions.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and differentiated teaching methods.
  • Relevant training or certifications in SENFirst Aid, or similar areas.
