Role Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with additional learning needs, such as Autism, ADHD, or other developmental challenges.
- Work closely with the class teacher to tailor learning materials and activities to the pupil’s unique requirements.
- Facilitate the pupil’s social integration and encourage participation in group activities.
- Monitor and document progress, offering regular updates to the class teacher, SENCO, and parents.
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment for all students.
- Ensure adherence to the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies to maintain student safety and well-being.
About You
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience supporting children with SEN in a school or childcare setting.
- A strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental or learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the pupil’s individual learning style.
- A team-player mindset, ready to collaborate with staff and contribute to the school community.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies.
- Familiarity with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or Primary School curriculum.
